❓ How to Improve Color Durability in Plastic Products

In plastic applications, ensuring long-term color durability is one of the key priorities for manufacturers. This becomes even more challenging for outdoor products, where prolonged exposure to UV radiation, heat, and environmental conditions can accelerate color fading and degradation. Typically, products such as kayaks, beach chairs, boats, and plastic furniture only retain their original color for about 1–2 years of use.

This is mainly due to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, heat, moisture, and oxygen, all of which accelerate the degradation of both the polymer matrix and the pigments. UV radiation, in particular, can break down molecular chains, leading to surface chalking and color fading. At the same time, low-quality or non-UV-resistant pigments may lose their stability more quickly, resulting in noticeable discoloration over time. Inconsistent processing conditions, such as excessive heat during production, can further weaken color performance from the very beginning.

So, how can DPM extend color lifespan to last for decades?

DPM incorporate UV stabilizers and color protection additives into our formulations, enhancing color retention and reducing fading. This allows the product to maintain its appearance and color stability for many years, even under prolonged outdoor exposure.
